How Moira Found Me
I grew up on a farm in a small town in central Iowa, reading my Pisces horoscope in the newspaper and feeling like it was written for me. I wanted to live in a big city and work in advertising since I was in the eighth grade. I always loved art and anything creative. And from the very beginning, I deeply related to being a Pisces. I read every horoscope I could find in magazines and newspapers. In the eighties, that was mostly the newspaper.
I didn't get married until my late thirties. I had my two beautiful children at 41 and 42. I was running my own advertising agency and working with global, iconic brands. I was a pioneer in my industry, I led seminars in Asia, London and across the US. I had worked hard to build the career and life I had been dreaming of since I was a kid.
And then I burned out. Hard. I had everything I had ever wanted and I could not figure out why I felt so lost. I had the marriage, the amazing kids, the fulfilling career, the community, the supportive friends. Who could want for more? But something was missing. I was not listening to my true self. I was searching for the meaning of it all and I just could not find it.
For my fiftieth birthday, I went to a Reiki specialist and experienced something that moved me and that opened the door to my spiritual quest. I discovered meditation and Joe Dispenza, frequency work, mediums, psychics. I did my Gene Keys. I followed my horoscope religiously. I had my numerology done and my family constellations read. I had screenshots on my phone, bookmarks on my computer and printouts taped on the wall by my desk. I was devouring every system, every reading, every tool I could find. But nothing brought it together. I had all the data. I had all the insights. But I did not have a practical guide for what to do with any of it in my actual life.
Here is the part I need to tell you, because it is honest and because it is true. My family is Catholic. We go to church, we say grace, we believe in God. My husband and I have had many conversations about whether all of this, the astrology and the systems, is something I should be exploring. He worries that it is what he calls "false gods."
I do not believe these systems replace my faith. I believe they are tools. A birth chart is not a Bible. A Human Design type is not a creed. They are lenses. Different ways of looking at the same you. Different angles on the same light. Personally, I believe that God is in everything, not just in church on Sunday, but in the way the light comes through the window and in the ocean and the stars. I do not think you have to choose between your faith and your curiosity. I think curiosity is part of faith. I think wonder is part of worship.
Moira is not a religion. It is not a belief system. It is not a replacement for anything you already hold sacred. It is a tool. A set of lenses. A way of seeing yourself more clearly so you can live more intentionally. You can be Catholic and read your Human Design. You can be Jewish and study your Sabian Symbols. You can be Buddhist and check your numerology. You can be unsure about all of it and still find something true. You can be nothing at all and be welcome here.
I built Moira because I needed it. I spent years looking for something that pulled all these systems together into one reading and then told me what to actually do with it. I wanted someone to say "here is your chart, here is your Human Design, here is your Gene Keys, here is what it all means, and here is what you should do this week." Nothing confusing or too woo woo, just an honest conversation from a friend. Nobody was doing that. So I built it.
Seven ancient systems. One reading. Real guidance for your real life. Not predictions. Not vague personality traits. The practical wisdom to use it all, starting today. That is what I was searching for. That is what Moira is.
I am a Pisces Sun, Pisces Moon, Aries Rising. A Generator with Emotional Authority. Life Path 9. A Metal Pig. I'm a girl from a small town in Iowa that always had big dreams and I grew up to build something I needed and could not find. That is my thread. Moira is how I am weaving it.
If your thread led you here, I am glad it did.
One more thing. You might be wondering where the name Moira came from.
In Greek mythology, the Moirai were the three Fates. Three sisters who wove the thread of life. One spun it into being. One measured its length. One cut it when it was time. They were sisters, and they were different, and together they held the whole of a person's life in their hands.
I am the oldest of four. Two little sisters and a younger brother. And when I heard the story of the three Fates, I thought of my sisters immediately. We are the same in so many ways, but we approach life completely differently. We see things from different angles. We move at different speeds. We love in different languages. And yet, together, we have always made sense of each other. My sisters have been part of every chapter of my life. They have helped me weave the tapestry of who I am.
Moira is named for them. Not for the myth, although I love the myth. For the real women. The ones who have been there through every season of my life, who know me in ways no chart ever could, who have held the thread alongside me when I could not hold it alone.
This is for you, my sisters. You know who you are.
With love and starlight,
Amie
Founder of Moira. Curious. Still learning.
